Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This week’s Tuesday Teaser is: Love and Louis XIV: The Women in the Life of the Sun King, by Antonia Fraser.
In black velvet edged with fur, including a matching hat above the huge dark eyes which were her best feature, she was irresistible. It was certainly not a coincidence that the King’s early loves were all superb equestriennes, able to outdistance the court if necessary, since riding in the forests and glades round the various royal chateaux represented some of the few opportunities for privacy that Louis had.

Sounds like an interesting book, though I’m more partial to the Salemander King. My teaser is here.
I like the Salamander King too. I must do a ‘royal emblems’ post sometime.
Makes sense one would need to ride if that was were privacy could be found. My TT: http://www.rundpinne.com/2009/12/pearl-girls-teaser-tuesdays.html
I’ve never read any Antonia Fraser. She has been on my going-to-get-to-that-author-one-day list forever!
My teaser is here
Same here–I’ve heard so many awesome things about her.
Great teaser. I read a Fraser book a long time ago but remember liking it a lot.
Wonder if is was a good thing to be irresistable?
This is Marie Mancini being discussed here, and in her case, probably not. Her uncle, Cardinal Mazarin, Louis XIV’s chief minister, was horrified that his niece was distracting Louis XIV from his upcoming marriage to a Spanish infanta. Marie was married off to an Italian prince against her will and the marriage was not a happy one.
I love Antonia Fraser and I love the period so I really must pick this up from my shelves soon – it’s been there for ages. Thank you for the nudge!
I don’t even think I’ve spotted this book on any of the various book blogs yet. Interesting teaser. Mine are posted here!
I am soo looking for this book!
Here’s mine
Ahh it must be nice to be able to ride horses around glades and all that victorian stuff.
Here’s mine!
I’ve never read any of these books before! It sounds interesting, though
So much said in those very descriptive sentences! They certainly set up the scenes.
Mine is here:

I struck lucky – just opened the book at random and there it was. It’s very typical of the whole book too.
